Mr. Trump, Save the Dakota Access Pipeline

For all the current focus on the Panama Canal, there is another, more important infrastructure project that deserves President Trump’s attention: The Dakota Access Pipeline. Beginning in North Dakota, this crucial pipeline transports roughly 5% of U.S. oil production and supplies large refining markets in the Midwest and Gulf Coast.
The pipeline was finished in June 2017, several months after Mr. Trump reversed an Obama-era decision to prevent the pipeline from crossing under an area of the Missouri River just north of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe’s reservation. In the years since, that crossing has endured an onslaught of ill-founded lawsuits by environmental and indigenous groups.
